Baby gifting guides

Ten guides to baby gifts that actually get used

Each guide covers what to buy, what to skip, how much to spend and the questions people ask most — for newborns, showers, birthdays, hampers and the parents themselves.

How to choose

Four questions before you buy

A short checklist that catches almost every gifting mistake — worth two minutes before you order.

  1. Start with the occasion

A shower gift, a newborn welcome and a first birthday call for very different things. Pinning the occasion down narrows the field immediately.

  2. Match the baby's stage

Check the age label rather than guessing. With clothing, size up — 0–3 month outfits are often outgrown before they are worn.

  3. Run the safety check

No small detachable parts, no long cords or ribbons, washable non-toxic materials, and a recognised safety mark on the packaging.

  4. Ask: will they use it weekly?

The best-loved gifts show up in daily routines — feeding, bathing, settling, going out. Cuteness fades; usefulness doesn't.
